SUBSTRATE:- Chip Board (See Particle Board)

Description:- Panel product made from relatively large particles of timber.

Area of Use:- Can be veneered to produce board for cabinet construction. Can be used for flooring in 2 story construction. Can be also described as particle board . SUBSTRATE ONLY SUITABLE FOR INTERIOR APPLICATIONS.

Substrate Preparation:- For new woodwork ensure that timber surfaces are clean and dry. Thoroughly sand in the direction of the grain and remove dust. Fill cracks, nail holes and surface imperfections with a polyester filler, coloured to match the timber. In some circumstances better results may be achieved by filling holes and imperfections with a matched filling material after staining, as some filling materials will not take up the same stain colour as the surrounding timber. For previously finished timber completely remove lacquer, shellac, paint or perished varnish, thoroughly sand timber in the direction of the grain and remove dust. Fill and stain as for new woodwork if required. For sound varnish and polyurethane, wash down surface with mineral turps to remove all dirt, wax and grease, then sand thoroughly to remove any gloss and roughen the surface. Remove dust.
